CAR DYNO FACILITIES

At our premises in Co.Kildare, we operate a state of the art 4wd Dynamometer test bench, also referred to as a ‘Dyno’ or ‘Rolling road’.

This equipment is used for the development of all our tuning software on cars, vans and 4x4s in a controlled and safe environment.
Here we can custom tune and test each vehicle individually, measure power output, datalog the engine data and perform a variety of different tests under controlled conditions..

Empowering Precision Performance

Our Dyno Setup

Single large roller setup offers superior performance compared to the more common twin roller setup. By placing the car’s weight directly onto the rollers with a larger surface area for grip, it mitigates grip and tire deformation issues often encountered with twin rollers. This setup allows high horsepower cars to be tested without slip problems or excessive tire heat and deformation.

Our 6000nm Twin retarder setup can measure up to 2000 wheel horsepower! While we may not frequently encounter such high power levels on our dyno, its capability ensures it operates well below full capacity even with cars up to 900 hp, which we occasionally test. Unlike most dynos, which struggle with heat and inconsistent power measurements, ours maintains stability without requiring lengthy cooldown periods.

Mechanically linking the front and rear axles via a driveshaft, clutch, and two gearboxes (unlike most 4wd dynos) is crucial, particularly for models like BMW Xdrive, as it prevents undue stress on the transfer box. This synchronisation ensures that front and rear wheel speeds mimic real-road conditions, providing more accurate results. Even 2wd cars can have their axle speeds matched without disabling traction control or disconnecting wheel speed sensors.

COOLING AND EXTRACTION

Our Dyno CELL

The environment for testing the car is equally as important as the dyno itself. It is absolutely essential the engine is cooled sufficiently and able to breathe in clean cool air in order to perform safely and consistently. Our room (dyno cell) is constructed with insulated cold room panels.

We have 30kw of frontal cooling power which draws fresh cooler air from outside via a duct at the front of the cell. This fan forces the air at up to 160km/hr at the front of the car to cool the engine and intake temperatures.

The cell also has 7.5kw + 5.5kw extraction fans which quickly removes exhaust gasses and heat from the room, meaning we have fresh air entering and bad air exiting the room. All of this results in the car performing consistently on the dyno and similar to real world conditions.

Many tuning companies who run dynos don’t invest properly in their dyno cell, and therefore cannot produce the accuracy and repeatability required especially on higher powered vehicles which generate a lot of heat and exhaust gasses.
